The top four sightseeing destinations among visitors to Kanazawa are Kenrokuen, Kanazawa Castle Park, the Kanazawa 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Ishikawa Prefectural Museum of Art. Number five is the Ninja Temple, otherwise known as Myouryuji Temple. Considering that the top four are all government facilities, it’s interesting that number 5 is a religious organization. Officially, there were 252,305 visitors in 2015, and a quick calculation at 1,000 yen per person shows that the Ninja Temple’s annual income will easily be in the hundreds of million yen a year. With many temples these days losing parishioners and failing to find young priests willing to take over temple management, it’s nice to know that at least one temple is wildly popular.
