I think Japan has better drivers than other countries have, but there’s been one bad driving habit I’ve noticed for a while now. When a pedestrian steps into a crosswalk, Japanese drivers tend not to stop. That’s always puzzled me. The other day I got my JAF (Auto Club) magazine, and this bad habit was mentioned in an article on foreigners’ observations of Japanese driving. I agree completely. Japan seems to respect cars above pedestrians just as it respects men above women.
